WHAT WEDDING SEASON WILL YOU SAY 'YES' TO?
Here at Savvy, we know that as soon as the word ‘yes’ leaves your mouth, a million thoughts start racing through your mind. You begin to envision your perfect day – from your dress, to your venue, and to the face of your fiancé as you make your way down the aisle. They say that your wedding day will be one of the most memorable of your life, and we’re here to make sure that it is everything you have ever dreamed of – and maybe even a little more.
As you start to plan your perfect day, the first decision to be made is the all-important date. You’ll stamp this onto your invites, it will be marked on your pictures, and will be a day to be celebrated for a lifetime. The date, but more broadly, the season of your wedding can play a hand in all major decisions; the style of your dress, the location of your venue, the color scheme, and much more. Picking the right wedding date seems a little more daunting now, doesn’t it? But, don’t worry, Savvy is here to help!
This blog will go through the ins and outs of what you can expect from each wedding season, ultimately helping you determine which season is the perfect match for you! So, sit back and keep reading as we lay out each season for you below.
|Spring|
Spring is the perfect season to capture the natural beauty of any area. Situated between the months of March and May, think fresh flowers and pastel colors (…perfect for both your décor and your wedding pictures – the best of both worlds, right??) Lighter colors are gorgeous alone, but don’t be afraid to be daring and add that pop of brightness somewhere in your wedding look. For example, pair a baby pink with gold and ivory – but add that dash of fuchsia to draw eyes and turn heads.

Want to capture the beauty and brightness of summer, but can’t handle the scorching heat? Then ‘spring’ is screaming your name!! This allows versatility in selecting both your dream dress, and your dream venue. Consider having a dress that can be adapted for both the warmer, and colder, parts of the day. Or, try your hand at a dress change – they say two is better than one, right?
For a ceremony during the peak of the day, most brides will be comfortable in a sleeveless and lightly lined dress; possibly chiffon or charmeuse if you’re looking for something a little tighter. However, you may want to pair something flowy and airy to compliment what some would consider the “rebirth” of the landscape. You could also add floral components to your gown if you’re really trying to be simpatico with the season…ugh, is it time to shop yet??
Your choice of venue for the spring season can be as open as your choice of wedding dress. Consider having both an indoor and outdoor space. This will allow your guests more room to mingle, and gives you more space to work with. Perfect for receptions into the early or late evening, spring will allow fresh air and a gorgeous landscape. One of the only things to be wary about is the fact that spring is usually peak wedding season, and rightfully so. This is not meant to discourage you from pursing the alluring spring enchantment you have always wanted, we simply suggest planning early and being proactive about your choices.

|Summer|
If you’re someone who loves the warmth and brightness of the summer months, then a wedding between June and September is for you! Summer weddings are an opportunity for you to express your bold, yet playful side. Bright and expressive color schemes are usually a staple for these warm summer months. Think fuchsias, yellows, oranges, reds…really any color that gives you that extra shine. Consider pairing more subtle colors with a standout and vibrant showstopper. This will catch the attention of your guests, leaving them mesmerized by not only your beauty, but the aesthetic of your décor. People often consider summer to be the most “bride friendly” season, meaning that it can cater to any bride, with any style. From glamour to rustic, summer can deliver across all areas.
In addition to all your décor possibilities, summer is the perfect season to showcase that one of a kind wedding dress. Considering summer is notorious for its long, hot days, don’t be afraid to show a little skin. Opt for a dress with lighter fabric, one that will be comfortable as you dance the night away – consider chiffon or silk. If you would prefer to be more reserved, pair your dress with a bolero that can be taken off if need be.

Your wedding venue follows a similar protocol as that of Spring. An outdoor space will allow you and your guests to soak up the natural warmth of the season, and is perfect if you want your party to go late into the night. One thing often forgotten about, however, is the importance of having an indoor space. If you’re like most human beings, being in the heat for an extended amount of time may result in…ugh we hate to say it…sweat. This is natural!! If you are someone graced with the ability to control your body temperature, this is still important because odds are at least one of your guests is not. Therefore, you may want to consider having an air-conditioned oasis for them, one that allows guests the opportunity to escape the heat and explore another side of the venue.

|Fall|
A season sometime taken fore-granted, fall provides brides with rich color and endless décor opportunities. The natural beauty offered between the months of September to December, provides brides with a chance to play with the warm and rustic hues of the changing landscape. Think maroons, forest greens – really any color that gives you that cozy and warm feeling. Gold, while a staple in pretty much every season, works especially well with the organic nature of fall. In addition to housing some of the more welcoming and cozy color schemes, fall also provides us with the opportunity to rely on the natural beauty of our surroundings. This can save a large sum of money that can be allocated elsewhere; bills, clothes, more vacation time…maybe consider taking us along if it’s the later your excess money goes too – we’re only slightly joking.

Fall is the perfect time of the year to do something unique with your wedding day look. Considering temperatures begin to dip as early as mid-September, you will want to plan accordingly when it comes to your dress of choice. We suggest dresses composed of a mid-weight fabric, such as satin or taffeta. Don’t be afraid to still go sleeveless as it can be easy to find a shall or bolero to compliment your look.
In terms of venue, this is where we see one slight disadvantage to that fairytale fall wedding. While the season boasts relatively mild and consistent weather, it does often limit you to indoor receptions. This can get tricky in terms of finding the right space to make your own, but we believe that there are plenty of décor options to compliment your chosen theme. Plus, who said there was anything wrong with a few heat lamps to warm up an outdoor space?? We suggest planning ahead to ensure that you can lock down a venue that’s perfect for you and yours.

|Winter|
Probably the season most often avoided, winter boasts enough pros to hold its ground against the others. Situated between the months of December to March, winter provides a unique opportunity to showcase the lesser seen side of wedding landscapes, snow! While one cannot always rely on the appearance of it, if/when snow does arrive, your wedding will transform into a winter wonderland. If you’re lucky enough to have this beautiful, white-covered landscape, any color palate is bound to pop against its blank canvas. If you’re looking for specific color recommendations, we suggest going with rich and cozy hues, similar to those associated with fall.
Selecting the correct gown and venue to pair with the stereotypically cold winter months may present you with your largest challenge. However, Savvy believes that there’s a perfect look for everything and everyone, no matter how cold the temperature. Consider looking at heavier fabrics such as gathered taffeta or a layered satin – anything that will give you that extra bit of warmth.

In addition, the perfect winter venue may be slightly harder to come by. As with Fall weddings, finding an indoor space to compliment your personality and wedding aesthetic may be difficult. However, keep in mind that there are a lot of opportunities to get creative with your décor. Consider using candles, and by candles, we mean A LOT of candles. Not only are they practical, but they will also offer a romantic glow to both your ceremony, and your reception.
