BREAKING TRADITION - WEDDING CAKE EDITION

Whether you’re looking for a more traditional treat or an unconventional take on the classic style, Savvy is here to help you pick the best (and most delicious!) option for you.

Consider the Details: Your wedding cake should be one of the last items you finalize as a lot of other factors come into play when choosing it. Aspects such as what time of year your wedding will take place, whether the venue is indoors or outdoors, wedding colors, and the number of invitees on the guest list all play a role in deciding the type of cake you choose. For example, you don’t want an ice cream-based cake if your wedding is in June and the venue is outdoors. You also might not want to pick a four-tier cake if you’re expecting 40 guests.

Explore your Options: There’s nothing wrong with switching things up a bit and going with a non-traditional cake option! Cupcakes have been growing in popularity over the years as have doughnuts, ice cream sundae bars, and different types of cheesecakes to replace the typical wedding cake. If you want to keep the concept of the “cake cutting,” consider getting a smaller cake for you and your S.O. while your guests get a different dessert. This way you can keep the tradition while adding a fun and fresh twist. You can also consider capturing a bit of the culture of where you’re having the big day. Research local specialities and see if any of them catch your eye.

Consider Cost: Now that you have an idea of what you’re on the hunt for, look at your budget. What is realistic for your wedding? As we mentioned, the number of guests you plan on inviting play a huge role in the cake selection process. Many bakeries price by the slice which can add up quickly if you have a lengthy guest list. Consider the most important feature of the cake for both of you. The design? Shape? Flavor? Decide where you’ll spend to help guide your decision-making process.

Find PINspiration: Brainstorm what you’re looking for before heading to your tastings – what better way to do this than finding inspiration on Pinterest? Search until your inner bride can’t simply pin another cake. Or, if social media isn’t your thing, check out bridal magazines and snip your faves. It’s helpful to have a general idea of your tastes beforehand so you don’t get overwhelmed by all of the options at the tasting.
